Go Fast OR Turn Fast?

Well YOU might say "can't I do BOTH?" OK, maybe your airplane CAN...but can YOU keep up with it? At some point excessive speed will become a detriment to you in a combat match. You can't cut any ribbons if you don't stay in the "box".
As you scream through a knot of combatants at 95 mph and find yourself 200 yards downrange before you can react, you might consider trying a couple of other prop sizes. I prefer to trade in a little top end speed for more torque...I find that the airplane loses very little speed in a tight turn and accelerates faster. This gives you the abillity to stay in the box and bite some tail!
Each airplane/engine combo is different, but if you are flying fast on a .46 using a 10/6, try an 11/4 or an 11/5 and experiment a little. The more agile you are with the increased torque translates to tighter turns that allows you to turn on an opponent who may be 10-15 mph faster than you are.
My last 5 cuts/kills were made with a borrowed SPAD that was the slowest entry in the match, but it was very agile.
